Our Love Story

His

A Super Like on Tinder was all it took to restart something that had begun years earlier, when the notification appeared on my phone I remember being out on my lunch break at work and I can remember feeling so excited to talk to Lisa, I felt like there was unfinished business between us after our infamously bad first date years earlier.

I still remember how shy Lisa was when we met up again, she barely said a word, but there was something about her, something quiet, gentle, and special. It didn’t take long for me to realise she was the one. I think the moment it really hit me was when I found her sitting with my mom, knitting together as if they’d known each other forever. They say men choose partners who remind them of their moms… well, maybe there’s some truth in that.

Within a couple of months we had moved in together, and those early days were some of the happiest of my life. Having Lisa around made everything feel lighter. She gave me purpose again, hope, warmth, and something to look forward to every single day.

After about six months together, I took Lisa to Paris. Her family had a running bet about whether I was going to propose. Little did they know it would take me another seven years to finally do it, they say good things come to those who wait. When the moment finally arrived, it was perfect. Even the guy on the boat with his arse out couldn’t ruin it.

Over the years we’ve built a beautiful home, created a life filled with love, and welcomed two amazing children into the world. Watching Lisa grow as a mother has been one of the greatest blessings. She pours her heart into every birthday, holiday, and family moment, making each one magical and memorable for our kids. Watching Lisa walk down the aisle will be one of the proudest moments of my life and I can't wait to call her my wife and to start the next chapter of our story together.

Hers

Sixteen years ago, Joe took me on a date… a date I sadly cannot share the details of in public. However, ask me over a drink and I may spill the beans, let’s just say it was memorable!
After that not so great first date, we went our separate ways and life took us in different directions, but I never quite forgot about him. Every time I got my nails done by his sister-in-law, I would casually ask how he was and what he was up to. I even attempted the occasional Facebook stalk, but Joe being Joe didn’t have social media, he was basically living off-grid.
Fast forward 6 years to Bonfire Night 2016. After years of not seeing him, I suddenly heard my name being called from across a car park. I turned around and there he was, an ever so slightly drunken Joe with the biggest, most beautiful smile on his face. At that moment, he didn’t know it, but seeing his face was exactly what I needed, my whole soul lit up.
We had a brief catch-up and, once again, went our separate ways (notice a pattern here)… but thankfully, this time not for as long.
A couple of days later, and one BIG super like on Tinder, sent from me, which I confess loud and proud - our story picked right back up where it had left off all those years ago. Only this time, with fewer questionable date choices.
From that very first date (well… the second one), I knew he was the one. The person I wanted to build a life with, raise a family with, and watch become the most amazing daddy to our children. He was everything, kind, caring, affectionate, funny, and completely selfless. I could see straight away what a beautiful soul he had, the kind of person who would always show up, always care, and always love. There truly wasnt anything I didnt love about him… not even his slightly unhinged obsession with squatting flies, which sometimes felt like I was living in a Mr Bean episode on repeat!!
Seven amazing years later, years filled with laughter, love, chaos, building a home, and raising our beautiful children together - Joe decided to propose.
He had planned the most romantic proposal at Lake Windermere, out on a boat, just the two of us. Every single detail had been carefully thought out… except for one, the couple on the boat next to us, who decided that was the perfect time to start pulling moonies. Not quite the romantic backdrop he had in mind, but the proposal still went ahead (thankfully), and it was everything I had ever dreamed of.
And now, here we are, three years later, and I’m about to marry my best friend, my calm in the chaos, the man who always puts me and our children first. The person I adore and genuinely couldn’t do life without… my Joe.
We feel unbelievably lucky to be sharing this next chapter with the people who mean the most to us, our wonderful family and friends. We cannot wait to celebrate with you all, laugh with you, dance with you, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Love,
Mrs Burton to be x
